Yama  &  Niyama

R E L A T I O N S H I P

What kind of relationships do we want to create?  to experience?

Yama  direct internal & external action

Ahimsa  Love  Compassion, Anti Harm, Reverence

Satya   Honesty,   Integrity,   Commitment to Truth

Asteya   Gratitude,  Giving,  No taking

Brahmacharya   Conscious Energy Moderation

       Aparigraha   Unattachment, Simplicity, Release

Niyama  guide spiritual observation

Saucha   Purity,   Clarity,   Purpose

      Santosha   Rooted,    Acceptance,   Contentment

Tapas   Discipleship,   Zeal,   Perseverance

          Svadhyaya Listening, Reflection, Discernment

 Ishvara Pranidhana   Trust,   Surrender,   Faith

These are the foundation --
bring them into Pranayama and Asana
and explore the relationship with Self

Integrating these frameworks requires:

patience & persistent effort ( sadhana )
reflection & learning ( svadhyaya )
unattachment to results ( vairagya )
surrendering faith ( shraddha )

It's traditional to work as a curious and sincere disciple with the guidance of a seasoned Teacher.

This relationship has been the foundation of learning on the Yoga Marga for thousands of years.
